This conference is organised by SAMS - Southend Against Modern Slavery Partnership.

The conference is aimed at raising awareness of modern-day slavery in the region and explaining the key issues.

Key speakers are:

  • Kathy Betteridge from the Salvation Army, with the experience of supporting victims of modern slavery;
  • Fatema Islam who will discuss the social work experience of working with migrants, refugees and survivors of modern slavery;
  • Revd Dr Dan Pratt: Co-ordinator of the Southend Modern Slavery Community Partnership.

The conference will consider what are the indicators of slavery, what can be the responses to this and what is the role communities in combatting modern slavery in South East Essex today.
