Social Enterprise – the darker side

By Jill Poet on June 25, 2015

Many people know that I have what I would call a Love / Hate relationship with Social Enterprise. I love the ethos of giving social value being more important than making a profit although, of course, we must never forget that ALL organisations need to make a profit, even if they call it a surplus!

My article, originally published on the 2 Degrees Network blog (which has now been taken down) summarises my thoughts on the subject: Social Enterprise:  politically sexy but perhaps not picture perfect.

I tend to be a lone voice on this matter, although some of the comments echoed my thoughts.

However, I was signposted to an interesting YouTube video today called “The Dark Side of Social Enterprises.” Tina Dacin of Queens School of Business in Canada is certainly concerned about the rise in social enterprise and what she calls the darker side.

You might find it interesting!
